Some users might simply want a fresh start on their current smartphone. If you are planning to give up your old smartphone as part of an exchange offer, or you are passing it to another family member or friend, formatting your existing handset to erase personal data is an absolute must. ![]() Once these steps are completed, go to the Phone Link app on your PC and follow the setup process to establish a new link.Switching to a new smartphone can be a tedious affair - copying your data from the old phone, setting up, and logging into apps is part of the process. ![]() Select Back to return to Windows Settings Home, and then select Apps. ![]() Select Start (or press the Windows logo key on your keyboard), then select Settings > Phone > Unlink this PC. For each, select Show details > More actions and then Unlink this phone. You’ll be presented with a list of all your connected devices. Tap Force Stop and confirm when prompted. Go to your Settings > Apps (or Apps & Notifications on some devices) > Link to Windows. If this doesn't work, you'll need to reset your apps on both devices. ![]() In Apps & features, select the Phone Link app from the list.
